Ancient Booloumba Creek Valley

The magical Booloumba Valley is part of the Conondale National Park and  is made up of steep rocky gorges, precious wildlife, crystal clear water, coloured stones and dense rainforest.

Leisa talks about capturing the essence of the life that is the rainforest in each piece of her work, including ceramics and paintings.

Leisa has lived in the Booloumba Valley for over 20 years, her property borders on the Conondale Range National Park. Her techniques and tools are simple and primitive (rocks and wood) and she uses minimal glaze, as she loves the natural beauty to be the masterpiece.

Booloumba Arts is much more than pieces of art, it is inspired to capture the essence and energy of this magical ancient wonder.
Leisa works predominantly with stoneware, porcelain and clay indigenous to the Booloumba Valley region with elements being embedded into her work in the form of sand, ash, rock, ochre, ferns and leaves. All work is 100% hand-built and completely unique.

Geological history of Booloumba
Booloumba Creek is a 325 million year old valley, formed from sediments from a volcanic chain on to a continental shelf and into a deepwater trench. About 315 million years ago there was an episode of compression and intense deformation of the deep water sediments. The deformation hardened and recystallized (metamorphosed) many of the rocks to ‘meta-sediments and ‘meta-volcanics, crumpling their layers and tipping them into steep inclines.
